Cats and doors.

My little sister moved back home last August to finish her education. She's done her BA, and now has the papers to prove it after 20 years of working in the financial field. She also brought her cats home. I'm allergic to them, but underwent 6 months of allergy shots for them (and grass).

Both cats are strange (HA!). One of them gets up in the middle of the night, picks up a fuzzy dice, and walks around with it in his mouth crying. You have to say his name and tell him everything is alright. Yes, it works. The other cat will get up near dawn and cry to be let out into our enclosed sunporch. A well placed slipper or closing my bedroom door usually works for that!

That being said, however... One (or both) of the cats decided this morning, that instead of meowing at the twilight, they would open the basement door and walk down the stairs.

Did I mention we have an alarm system on the house? Set to "stay", it arms the entry doors... and the basement.

0450 is a wonderful time to wake up to a 120dB siren. What does the 0 mean at the beginning of the time? OH MY GOD IT'S EARLY!

Well, it's the 30st of August, and the second full moon of the month is here. Makes this a blue moon month. This has been your interesting factoid of the week!

Around and About

I've finished my work period with Statistics Canada 2 weeks ago, feels weird not asking people personal questions and getting paid for it :). I was doing census work, followed by doing what is now called the National Household Survey , which used to be the mandatory Long Form Census.

Right now I am in St John's, Newfoundland, visiting at my brother's house. Except he's still at work off Greenland , and my sister-in-law went off to New York City with 9 of her friends to celebrate her 40th birthday for a week! That leaves me and my parents to babysit Maggie, my 3 and 3/4 year old niece. She can be a handful sometimes, but is full of joy and wonder that makes up for it.

Been looking at a few trucks with my father, he wants to upgrade from the F250 Superduty diesel that he has to a newer version (2003-2008 model year). Very hard beast to find, only 8 at all the Ford dealerships in all the Atlantic Provinces (Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island)

It's been over a year since I had my Lasik surgery done, and can't say enough good things about it. Being able to wake up and not fumble for glasses, or stumble to the bathroom to put in contacts is worth the money. The only downside I've found is that my eyesight is a bit off at twilight, but once it's fully dark I can see perfectly again. This may be to old age (45!!! in 3 weeks) instead of the surgery, as is my lack of being able to read extra-fine print. But, thats what the optometrist said before surgery anyways.

Wow, doing a lot of typing today.

Amy: hope your surgery goes well and you recover quickly. Kick that cancer in the ass, and twice more on it's way out the door!
Gneech: Have fun at Dragon-con, don't let the ponies eat you :)
Sue Rankin: I know you're out there somewhere, don't make me come looking for you! I miss the many posts you used to do. Need someone to live vicariously through on the Wrong Coast ;)
HossBlack: Heya to someone who actually responded to a few of my ramblings :)
Everyone else who actually reads this.... who are you and why is the rum gone?

Hmm, I really need to add some userpics or avatars.

Odds and Sods

Yeah, I really do need to update this more often.

Been playing a lot of Call of Duty:Black Ops recently. Which means I've been neglecting LoTRO and Bad Company 2. Why must they make video games so good? Have most of my Christmas shopping done, which is very hard on a reduced budget. I know what to get, just can't afford it. Maybe I should add a Paypal button for donations :)

Still no luck on the jobfront, this is hard on the mind and body when you have mild depression. Getting out of bed does require a conscious effort. Last month I was managing 7-730 am starts , but then the time change screwed everything up again! I am slightly miffed at my case worker, trying to recover travel costs from July.

Speaking of July, I had LASIK surgery done on my eyes, thanks to a generous donation by my aunt Agnes , may she rest in peace. I would recommend this to anyone who wears glasses. No more fumbling for glasses when you wake up, no looking for contact solutions, no more poking myself in the eyes with the contacts. But I still go to the washroom at 10 pm to take them out, even though it's 4 months later. Guess a 15 year old habit is hard to break.

Sunday Mornings

So, I thought that since I have a LiveJournal account, maybe I should...... journal some stuff? Just some random thoughts I am having today.

For starters, I am thinking about a "playoff beard" for hockey season. Except this means shaving off what I have, and starting with a fresh face. Might be a scary thing to see in the mirror. Oh well, I have until Wednesday to go yea or nay.

My Xbox... if I can ever get Mike away from it!!! Or just go buy a new one, let him have the old one. Still have unfinished games. A LOT of them.

Speaking of games, I still go online for LOTRO, just not as much as I want to. Might be all the crashes I got, or the fact that my account got hacked. But, I'm still paying for it, so maybe today I might go for a level run.

Flying: I still love to fly. Joined the Canadian Aviation Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) so that I can up in aircraft. Still, not allowed to fly the planes. I need to scrape up a few hundred dollars, go back to flight school, and re-certify myself. I follow the self-certification process, but nothing beats being behind the controls of the actual aircraft. MS Flight Simulator helps, but isn't close.

Wow, not too hard to pump out a few hundred words, is it?

Snow

Yeah, it's doing that falling from the sky trick again. Not as much as last year, but it has been a bit colder . Finally got to use the snowthrower in a while, left foot is finally getting better, but now I have a sore right ankle from compensating.

Just doing this because I havent posted in 17 weeks!

It's MY day today!

Yeah yeah, so now I'm another year older , once more around the solar system, 1/3 of how long I plan on living :)

But, now I am the Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.

Too bad no-one knows what the Ultimate Question was.

2 days in a row!

Wow, I must be becoming a regular blogger.

Did anyone else watch the whole Olympic Opening Ceremonies? Just blown away by the sheer magnitude of it all. Very glad for a HD TV and reciever, and also that Bell ExpressVu went out of their way to get a direct feed channel (no commentators OR commercials). I now have 6 HD Olympic feeds to choose from, but will probably stick to CBC and TSN.

How do you tell that you're watching Canadian Olympic TV? They are still showing the event even though no Canadians are left in it!

Oh yeah, raining again! Got August weather in July (hot and muggy) now getting late September weather in early August (rain and not-so-hot). Was Al Gore right?? gasp

It's me again

Just had one of those wonderful mediacl tests done. This one was called the Pulmonary Function test, and it's to see how well you can breathe while you bite on a snorkel and have your nose pinched. Not too comfortable, as you can see by the size of the schnozz in the picture :)

Got this done because way back when, in the 90's, I worked on a boat which they recently found asbestos in. The "good" asbestos, they say, but still. The insulation had become worn over time, and was free-floating throughout the ship. Normally, if you're in an asbestos environment, it isnt permamnent. But, being on a boat, you're there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For 2-4 weeks at a time. Grreat exposure lengths. And this one is only from ONE boat, the others I worked on have been long sold and scrapped or re-furbished. So no telling how much I got from those places. Just imagine a rough night at sea, then waking up covered in a fine dust that you've been breathing in straight for 8 hours.

Oh yeah, x-rays too. But since my doc is on vacation, wont know results until he gets back, the 18th.

Happier news....

Might be flying again soon, as a CFII (Certified Flight Instructor 1) if my interview comes up good. A local Flight Institute is starting here, and looking for zero-time or low-time pilots, who they can train to become instructors, and stay on with them for some time. Sounds good to me! They will be using DA-20s DA-40's and DA-42's (Diamond Aircraft 2 seater, 4 seater, 4 seater 2 engine) then might be moving into King Air C-90's (9 passenger/2 pilot cargo haulers)

And all this in the last week!

January blehs

So, another exciting month has almost gone by. I've been doing a bit of driving again, putting money back in pocket after Christmas. Had to fix the snowblower yesterday. Seems a 12" cable for the drive gave out, and the local dealers have been having a run on them. Guess everyone's 5 year warranty ran out at exactly the same time mine did. Expect the neighbours machine to go soon :)

Been mostly healthy and wise (not wealthy) with just a touch of the cold. Unfortunately, it touched my throat, resulting in post-nasal drip (ugh) with strep throat(ugh x2) and dry hacking cough (ugh ..you get the idea) Doc has me on some anti-biotics, these things are HUGE! 875mg, about 2cms/ 3/4 inch long, and, of course, tasty.....

Been watching the_gneech and Susandeer get ready for the cons, wish I could join them. Lets see what tonights National Gambling Addiction brings. brb, pizza done!

*Burp*

Good news to pass along.. My brother had his first child born in December, a little girl named Maggie Theresa. Mother and daughter are both doing well. Pround grandparents left my sisters place on Dec26th and drove 1500 kms plus one ferry trip to go see her. Planning on staying until March or so. Poor kid's going to be spoiled rotten! :D

Well , or not so well..

Woke up yesterday morning, duvet off the bed, one thin sheet covering me, and a slight cramp in my leg. Not so bad. Get out of bed, take 3 steps , then notice that the left ankle doesnt seem to be in order. Apparently, I kicked off the bed covers so hard that I have sprained my ankle. Thank the maker for Ace bandages :)

Tried to do a bit more gaming as well, had to get Nirrum up past 31. Level 35 before I get that dang horse and start saving silver! But, auctions go well, I have 3 gold as of Sunday, house is paid for, just upgrading armour and armaments. Still a few solo quests to do, and a lot of Fellowship ones. I blame this all on [personal profile] the_gneechas he is the one who brought me back into RP gaming. Darn you sir, darn you to Heck!!

Now, going to try a picture......

Hurricane Season

And no time for reason.

The "remnants" of hurricane Noel are heading towards my area with great speed and gusto. But, since there is no longer an eye associated with this storm, it isnt a H any more. But tell that to the heavy rains, foaming sea, and 80 Knot winds!! (Thats a class 2 hurricane with the eye)

Other than that..... no more job. Still out looking for something meaningful, not calling people up at 5pm and selling them encyclopedias and vacuum cleaners. Might head out West, except I dont want to live with 4 other people in a 2 bedroom basement paying $400 each for rent. Yeah, it's crazy out in Alberta.

My parents have gone on their pilgramage (sp?) to the sun again, back for another month in Fort Myers. So they went around the 'cane. Le Sigh.

Hugh Hefner

Because I am STILL in my bathrobe as I type.

Stupid stupid stupid me or livejournal. I clicken on a HELP button and everything I had written went kablooie. Grrrrr / mad/ dissappointed.

Wondering why the weather is wonky. Warmer today then most days this July. Guess the new Mother Nature's taking over.

I really need to post more often. I also need a userpic. Wonder if I could impose on John (TheGneech) or Sue (susandeer) for a quickie. Errrr, not that kind. (or maybe ;)   )

Still not flying, bummed on that. But it's an expensive hobby. Anyone got a few thousand dollars to go towards a flyboy's tuition?

Job opportunity in the near Future(Shop) . Hope to know soon. They said calls for people going out mid-Oct. le sigh. Was working an an autoparts plant until I re-injured myself. Anyone with a spare knee I could borrow?

Sept 19th was International Talk Like a Pirate day and I missed it. Must be the Viking influence on me.

Got a new aquarium last week. Should have bought fish as well. Local Wally-world is 2-3x more expensive than Pets-Unlimited (they are around the Atlantic Provinces of Canada). We MIGHT be getting one here soon, so the rumour goes.

Why not?

Well. my second "official" blog entry. Not too exciting again, as usual. Just sitting in the basement listening to the fans hum on the computer and the birds singing outside.
My eyes bother me again, not too sure if its the allergies or bad fitting contacts. Prolly a little of both.
Dad is heading off to work tomorrow on the Labrador coastal boats. Even though he retired 3 years ago. Guess he likes that pocket money!
Still wondering if I have a fursona, thinking it might be draconic or avian. Definitely flight capable! heh, maybe i'm a flying squirrel!!!!

Up for seeing Autobots vs Decepticons!!!
